Wimauma Real Estate Information

Covering a region just 8.8 square miles in dimension, Wimauma and its over 4,000 residents are situated southeast of downtown Tampa a few miles from the I-75 corridor. Wimauma’s rich heritage began in 1902 when the town was created along the Seaboard Air Line Railroad that was designed to connect Turkey Creek and Bradenton in Central Florida. The area’s founder, Captain C. H. Davis, constructed the town at the railroad’s half-way point to serve as a break-point and post office site. The area’s interesting name was created by mixing the names of Davis’ three daughters, Willie, Maude, and Mary.

Several of Greater Sun Center’s renown golf courses are shared with the Wimauma community. Among the most popular courses frequented by residents of Wimauma are North Golf Course, Kings Inn Golf Course, Caloosa Golf and Country Club, Golf Club at Cypress Creek, and the Cypress Greens Golf Course. The two primary recreational areas in town are Wimauma Park and Bethune Park. Both parks are typical neighborhood parks and offer plenty of picnic benches, playground jungle gyms, and large grassy fields to play soccer, run around, or take the dog for a walk. Residents enjoy having these parks so close to home because it allows them to frequent the areas often. Lake Wimauma is another important area for the community as it is more than just a pretty sight and is actually a place to cool of in the hot summer months.

Little Manatee State Park is located on the southern boundary of Wimauma and is a 2,433-acre facility located along the Little Manatee River. The beautiful area is popular with a number of outdoor adventure seekers who take part in kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and horseback riding, as well as camping, walking, hiking, and wildlife viewing.
